The Witch: A History of Fear, From Ancient Times to the Present by Ronald Hutton.
The Witch by Ronald Hutton is a very academic and detailed book about the global, ancient, and shamanic beliefs of Witches throughout history.
Filled with citations and resources, Ronald Hutton provides an important resource for historians and witches alike and I recommend this book to anyone interested in witchcraft history and global belief.
Personally, I found this book dry and heavy to read in places as a lot of information is thrown at the reader and swiftly moves onto the next topic. Paired with small font that is packed into each page (which in itself is fine), means I read small amounts less often so I could digest the information. The information itself was fascinating, however personally the way it was presented wasn’t the best fit for me.
This read is a great read, however if heavy academic texts aren’t your usual read, be prepared to spend a bit of time completing this book. I am glad I spent the time to read it properly, and will probably re-read it at some point to really digest the information.
