Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn

Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick, & Manifestation by Mat Auryn is a good introductory guide to psychic work and magick. It covers topics such as energy, meditation and relaxation, extrasensory perception, purification, shielding, elemental forces, realities, and examples of spells and rituals. This book explains several topics in great detail which is refreshing. The writing style overall is great, easy and fun to read. I would personally call this a workbook rather than an in-depth guide, as it is full of exercises which are ingredient free and financially accessible, which gives the reader lots to do. The art is absolutely stunning, and the book includes a bibliography at the end which is great.

There are a few areas that I personally didn’t enjoy as much. Some exercises didn’t resonate with me, which is to be expected as no-one can agree with books 100%. Although the exercises are ingredient-free which is great, they rely heavily on visualisation which can be less accessible for neurodivergent folks and folks with mental health conditions. There is also a section in the book where it explains that too much energy in the system can manifest as dizziness, aching, physical illness, and emotional imbalances. Whilst this can be true to a degree, the book doesn’t emphasise the importance of investigating mundane causes of symptoms (physical, emotional, environments etc) before considering spiritual causes. Spiritual bypassing, or blaming issues on spiritual ideas without considering or ignoring mundane issues is harmful, and should be discouraged. In my opinion, this book overall is a good meditation and energy work book, with minimal witchcraft involvement. Personally, I feel this book has a slightly fluffy, almost new age feel to it in some places. This is fine in itself, to some people this would ideal! But for me, I like a bit more grit in witchcraft books.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their meditation and energy work skills.
